How we picked
We looked at drive sizes covered, ratchet tooth count, piece count that actually matters (sockets and wrenches, not bit filler), case quality and warranty. Specs come from the manufacturers and the Amazon listings as of October 29, 2026. We don't publish star ratings or invent test results, and rankings aren't for sale.

FAQ
How many pieces do I really need?
For basic car and home work, a 100-200 piece set with 1/4" and 3/8" drive covers most jobs. Add 1/2" drive if you do suspension, lug nuts or larger fasteners.
What does ratchet tooth count mean?
More teeth (72, 90) means a smaller swing arc, so you can turn a bolt in tight spaces where a 45-tooth ratchet can't move far enough to click.
Why don't you list exact prices?
Amazon prices change daily. We show a relative price tier ($ to $$$$) within this category and link to Amazon for the current price.
